What is Root Canal Treatment?

What is root canal treatment? Well, root canal treatment is for teeth that have been so badly affected by decay that even their roots have been affected. In root canal treatment, all of the decayed portions of the tooth, including its root, are removed and filled in with an amalgam. This means that the tooth is no longer alive, and thus there is no more pain. However, because of the amalgam, the tooth is able to stay in your mouth as a place holder, which means that you will not have to suffer from the embarrassment or discomfort of missing a tooth.

So, what is root canal treatment? It is an incredibly painful procedure that is highly preventable if you simply take good care of your teeth. Make sure to brush your teeth regularly as well as floss daily. Using antiseptic mouth washes like Listerine will also help to prevent you from need a root canal. Most importantly, you should go to your dentist for regular check ups a few times a year. These regular check ups will enable your dental health professional to catch tooth problems early – before they spread to the root, which results in the need for a root canal. So, if you have been avoiding the dentist, schedule an appointment today. If you choose to keep avoiding the dentist, you are almost guaranteed a root canal in your future.

Are you Skipping Your Favorite Meals Because Of Dentures? Replace Dentures with Dental Implants

Are you skipping your favorite meals because of dentures? Replace your dentures with dental implants today! Dental implants are a much better tooth replacement option than dentures because they are each rooted in the jaw separated, unlike dentures which simply rest on the gums. This means that the dental implants can handle all the pull and pressure that a regular tooth can. Thus you can eat your favorite foods, no matter how sticky or crunchy they are. In addition, you are able to talk more easily because you do not have to constantly continue to glue your dentures back into your mouth and watch how you speak due to the fear of your dentures flying out of your mouth.

So are you still not sure you want to replace your dentures with dental implants even though you are skipping your favorite meals because of your dentures? You should at least schedule a first consultation with a dental implant surgeon who can explain to you the benefits of dental implants and how much better your entire life experience will be when you replace your dentures with them. Most often dental implant specialists do not charge for this first consult and so you will simply be educating yourself without spending a dime. So, what are you waiting for? Schedule your consultation with a dental implant surgeon in your area today!

How Long Does it Take to Complete the Whole Treatment

More and more people are getting dental implant surgery performed today to replace missing or damaged teeth. And because of this increase in popularity, more and more people are asking questions about the procedure as well. One of the most common questions asked about dental implant surgery is “How long does it take to complete the whole treatment?” And the answer to the question “How long does it take to complete the whole treatment?” truly depends on what kind of dental implant surgery you are having. For the most part, dental implants take at least three months to fully heal, but if you have a multitude of dental implants implanted in your jaw bone, then they may take longer to heal because of the trauma you have put your jaw and mouth through.

Furthermore, your healing process also depends on how well you take care of your implants. You have to make sure to follow all of your surgeon’s guidelines and go to every scheduled checkup. Because implants are very prone to infection, it is vital that you properly clean around them regularly and with the products your dental surgeon recommends. Though this process may sound irksome and tedious, remember the amount of money you have spent on your implants – do not let that money go to waste by letting your implants fail simply because you are lazy.

What are the Types of Dental Implants?

There are several types of dental implants, depending on the technique used, materials used and how far the bone resorption has progressed. The regular dental implants, where natural tooth root is simulated, are called root form implants. These belong to the group of endosteal implants, together with the plate form implants. While the root form implants use a titanium screw to simulate the root, with plate form implants there is not enough bone available in the jaw to support the screw. If bone grafting is not advisable or possible either, then plate form implants are used, they are thinner and can securely hold more than one tooth and be used for dental bridges as well.

A new form of endosteal implants has been developed lately, the mini dental implants, they are basically the same like root form implants, but a smaller screw is being used.

There are also subperiosteal implants, which are designed for advanced jaw bone resorption, when there is not even enough for a plate to be implanted. The custom made implant is lodged on top of the remnants of the jaw bone, but within the gums, providing enough stability to hold the whole lower dentures.

Intramucosal inserts exist as well, where removable dentures are inserted into indentions which are implanted and are in the roof of the mouth, for upper dentures.

What Can You Expect From Implant Dentist?

Implant dentistry has changed the way dentists and patients handle crooked, misaligned, chipped, cracked, stained and decaying teeth. Through implants, a dentist can give the patient a brand new smile and change the way they look.

However, before getting implants it is very important to visit an implant dentist and to know what you can expect from an implant dentist so that you’re prepared with any queries you might have.

So what can you expect from an implant dentist at the first consultation?

At the first meeting, the implant dentist will get a complete dental history including any other procedures that have been performed on your teeth. The implant dentist will then ask you for the changes you want in your teeth and smile. Following this, the implant dentist will do a thorough check up of your teeth and consider the changes you are looking for. The implant dentist will also suggest what procedures are best suited to you.

The implant dentist will then take impressions of your teeth in order to custom prepare the artificial tooth.

In the next meeting, the dentist will use the impression of your teeth and show you the changes that will be made. He will go through the entire process with you, explaining what will be done exactly and what the end result will be. The implant dentist will also choose the right shade and color of the material with which the new tooth will be made so that it looks natural.

After the procedure the implant dentist will have regular follow-ups.

Dental Implant Surgery by Hilliard Implant Dentist

Dental implants have changed the face of dental treatments around the world. Earlier a missing tooth or a broken and stained tooth was a reason to be shy and conscious in public. Today through dental implants one can replace any damaged or missing teeth and continue having that perfect smile.

Dental implant surgery basically involves inserting titanium posts into the jawbone where a tooth has to be replaced, which act as anchors. Once the healing is complete and the post has fused with the bone, artificial teeth made of ceramic, porcelain, etc is fitted such that it looks, feels and functions exactly like a real tooth. Implants also function much better than dentures, crowns or bridges, since they don’t fall out, and don’t need to be changed periodically either. Dental implant surgery is generally done in two stages, though mini implants can be fitted in one also. Many implant dentists are also using sedatives to help the patient relax during dental implant surgery and not feel the pain and discomfort.

A similar concern and care for patients is shown by Hilliard implant dentists when it comes to dental implant surgery. Hilliard implant dentists are well qualified and have excellent patient communication skills. They are all specialized in dental implant surgery and any patient coming to them walks out with a brand new, confidence radiating smile.
